A Blend of Adventure and Remote Work

July 22, 2022: Arrival in Reykjavík and Settling In

Iceland welcomed me with crisp air and stunning landscapes from the moment I landed in Reykjavík, the country’s capital. After checking into my accommodation, I set up a makeshift workspace with a view of the city’s colorful rooftops and the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church. I spent the rest of the day easing into my remote work routine, taking short breaks to explore the nearby streets and familiarize myself with the city's laid-back atmosphere. The day ended with a traditional Icelandic meal at a local restaurant, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

July 23, 2022: Golden Circle Exploration and Productive Breaks

With a full day ahead, I set off to explore Iceland’s famous Golden Circle route. I visited Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, before continuing to the majestic Gullfoss waterfall. Between stops, I found time to check in with work, using mobile hotspots to stay connected. My day concluded with a visit to the Geysir geothermal area, where erupting hot springs reminded me of Iceland’s unique geological power. The balance of work and exploration left me feeling accomplished and invigorated.

July 24, 2022: Reykjavík's Work-Friendly Cafés and Northern Lights

Back in Reykjavík, I took advantage of the city’s many work-friendly cafés to tackle some important projects. The creative energy of the capital made working remotely feel refreshing. By late afternoon, I had wrapped up my tasks and headed to the Perlan Museum to learn more about Iceland’s natural wonders. That evening, I joined a local tour in search of the elusive Northern Lights. Though it was still summer, the chance of seeing them was thrilling—though no lights appeared, the night skies were mesmerizing.

July 25, 2022: Waterfalls and Black Sand Beaches of the South Coast

The South Coast of Iceland beckoned, and I took the day to venture out. After an early morning work session, I drove along the scenic coast, making stops at the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. The feeling of standing beneath these powerful cascades was unforgettable. Later, I visited the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, where dramatic basalt columns and roaring waves created an awe-inspiring atmosphere. With just enough time left in the day, I managed to squeeze in some remote work while sitting in the shadow of Iceland’s volcanic landscapes.

July 26, 2022: Glaciers and Icebergs in Jökulsárlón

Today’s adventure took me further east to Jökulsárlón, a glacier lagoon filled with stunning blue icebergs. After a productive morning, I embarked on a boat tour of the lagoon, where I marveled at the surreal landscape of floating ice. Just nearby, I visited Diamond Beach, where ice fragments washed ashore, glittering like gems against the black sand. The serene yet powerful beauty of the area made it an unforgettable work-and-travel day.

July 27, 2022: A Day in the Highlands and Hot Springs

The Icelandic Highlands offer some of the country’s most remote and rugged beauty, so I set off to explore. With work deadlines looming, I began my day early, completing key tasks before venturing into the untouched landscapes. I hiked through Landmannalaugar, known for its colorful rhyolite mountains and geothermal hot springs. After a long day of hiking, I rewarded myself with a soak in one of the natural hot springs—a perfect way to relax after both work and adventure.

July 28, 2022: Whale Watching and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Today I took a break from work to fully enjoy the wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Known as “Iceland in Miniature” for its diverse landscapes, the peninsula offered a glimpse into everything Iceland has to offer—from mountains to fjords. I joined a whale-watching tour from the town of Ólafsvík and was lucky enough to see several majestic whales breaching the surface. The combination of marine wildlife and dramatic cliffs left me in awe of Iceland’s natural beauty.

July 29, 2022: Relaxation at the Blue Lagoon

With my trip winding down, I made my way to Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa—the Blue Lagoon. After a morning of catching up on work, I spent the afternoon soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters. The lagoon’s therapeutic atmosphere was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the past week of exploration and productivity. Surrounded by lava fields and the soft, milky blue waters, I felt completely recharged and ready to tackle the final day of my journey.

July 30, 2022: Farewell to Iceland

My last day in Iceland was a blend of nostalgia and admiration for this incredible country. After a few final hours of remote work in Reykjavík, I took one last stroll through the city, picking up souvenirs and snapping photos of my favorite spots. Iceland had been a perfect backdrop for both work and adventure. As I boarded the flight home, I knew this would be a destination I would return to, with its landscapes, culture, and tranquility deeply etched in my memory.
